~Thirteen~
These are thirteen of my favorite pictures. The bottom picture is of Greta with her first litter of pups back in 2006. We will know in two weeks if she is expecting her next litter! I’ve got my fingers crossed!
The Anniversary Dinner
Our Anniversary was full of surprises. This year I decided to become a true romantic and I had planned our “Anniversary Date” completely. When I called for reservations at The Woodshed I asked them to have a bottle of chilled champagne at our table. Hubby was pleasantly surprised and we toasted our 20 years together.
For our appetizers we ordered an artichoke dip for me, which was divine and Hubby got French Onion Soup, one of his favorite things to eat.
We talked and laughed and reminisced while we ate, looking back over the last 20 years with laughter and smiles.
Next came our tossed salads with blue cheese dressing. Crisp lettuce greens with a dressing that was equally yummy!
Then our dinners came. I must confess that this is not a meal you would find on any Weight Watchers menus! No I will probably burn in Hell for tonight’s indiscretion! LOL!!! Here is what we had:
We each had Prime Rib of Beef, with a Lobster Tail on top, a twice baked potato, mixed vegetables and horseradish. Also they served their own home-baked bread, which I did have some of, but managed to leave half of on the plate. I also did not eat all of my Prime Rib, and brought it home for a left over treat for Hubby.
As we sat drinking coffee my last surprise arrived, a small chocolate cake with butter-creme frosting and a drizzle of chocolate on the top. We each had a small piece and then we brought the rest home for the neighborhood kids.
It was a splendid celebration, made even more so by the little surprises that I’d planned for my sweetheart!!!
Happy Anniversary, Darling!!!
Twenty Years…..
Playing!
The puppies had their first year Vet visit today. They were weighed (Arnie was 18.8 pounds and Anneliese was 16.2 pounds), examined and given all their shots. They were exceptionally good pups, until a teacup poodle and his owner entered the clinic and then they began to bark like two wild maniacs! The old man looked down his nose at them, and then glared at me and said, “I think you need the Dog Whisperer!”
The funny thing is, had he just put the dog down, my two would have played with it and all would have been fine. In any case, I felt firmly chastised for being the owner of these two little, wild, beasts! LOL!
Next week is Greta’s appointment for her shots, and then in April Fritz will go have his teeth cleaned and get all his shots done.
I stopped at the New Hampshire Crafts Shop to visit my friend, with both puppies, as well as the Post Office. The pups loved this, and everyone was pleased to see them too.
It actually became sunny and a bit warm (40 degrees F) by noon. Emily had a half day of school, so once she was here, we had lunch and after that we went out to play with the dogs.
Hubby worked on the path around the house again today, blowing the snow back down to a passable pathway. Then we came in and Emily and I did some computer work together, looked at magazines and chatted until it was time for her to go home.
All in all, a very nice day!
Hubby’s Coming Home!!!
Hubby is due home soon. I am so glad. We have all missed him. Why just this morning while I was talking to him on the phone the dogs surrounded me. They could hear his voice on the cell phone. So, he had to say hi to each of them. We started with Fritz, as he has missed him the most, then Arnie and Anneliese. Lastly Greta got her turn. I held the phone to her ear and he spoke to her, and she did the cutest thing…she talked back!!!
She made these little grumbling noises at him and I know she did it because she knew it was her Daddy! So very sweet.
The rest of my day was spent doing the vacuuming, a little writing, and a little cooking. I also made a wonderful fire in the hearth and I have enjoyed the warmth it has provided.
It’s so funny when your other half is gone and his place next to you is empty. I say it’s funny because for all those years while he was working and flying, I was quite used to this life. It actually took me time to get used to his retirement and his being home all the time. Now, I can’t imagine that life at all. I really love having him here.
I guess I am a romantic, or perhaps I think it’s a good thing to appreciate the people we have in our lives each and every day. Whatever, I do love sharing my life with Hubby and I hope we have many more years to enjoy each other.
Waiting…
It was just me and the fur kids today. Hubby is off to the funeral and I am here with the pups keeping the home fires burning. By burning I mean that I shoveled the patio off so I can once again walk the pups without slipping and sliding around. Fritz and Greta assisted me with this chore. Sadly, the puppies had to remain inside because they are not the best “helpers” when one is shoveling snow.
Once I was done, I brought Fritz and Greta in and did take the two young ones out for a run in the yard.
All this was done while I had my cell phone clipped to my belt waiting to hear from Hubby. He called from each airport he visited on his way to the funeral.
In some ways, waiting for his calls reminded me of when we were dating and first married and he was still flying all over the world. His calls were always the best parts of my days and like a teenager, made me feel special and sometimes silly. This was before cell phones were a normal part of a persons life and I had to wait by the phone at home.
Today while I waited to hear from him I:
Shoveled the patio
I walked the dogs
Went to the Post Office
Did laundry
Walked the dogs again
Watched a movie (The Queen, good movie!)
Fed the dogs
Cooked myself some French Onion Soup
Walked the dogs again
All while I waited with the cell phone clipped to my belt. The calls came and each one made me smile and filled me with that special feeling you get when you talk to the one you love, reminding me once again how lucky we are to have found each other all those years ago.
You Got The Socks?
My hair is done, my nails are filed and painted a lovely pale pink, and I tanned for the last time today.

I have done 3 loads of laundry (2 more to go), cleaned two of the three bathrooms in the house, and made a list. A list of what, you might ask? A list of all the things I need to do before noon on Monday. I tend to get pretty nervous packing. I worry about forgetting things.
There was one time we went to Munich and I forgot to pack socks for Hubby. I was shocked to find out that socks in Germany cost $10.00 a pair! After that, I never forgot to pack socks again!
As we get older there are more things to pack, pills, make-up, sunscreen, insect repellent and tons of moisturizer. Remember the days when all one needed was a backpack with extra underwear and t-shirts and you just sort of lived in your jeans? Ha! Those days sure are gone!
So the next 24 hours will be spent counting out the items to go in our 4 large bags!
Don’t worry. I have already packed the socks!
Odds & Ends On A Monday
Today I got out the suitcases and told Hubby that we just HAD TO start packing. I needed to know if clothes needed to be cleaned, if we had enough underwear, socks and bathing suits. Most of all I needed to know if we were going to have enough room in our suitcases for everything.
Probably not.
I think I will have to get a duffel bag out to carry our shoes and sneakers. After all, now that you have to check your shampoo, hair spray and other stuff like that, I have used up a lot of that room in the checked bag.
We made great progress today and I am so happy that Hubby got his stuff out and planned what he will wear. What a help.
It was a really pretty day here today and Hubby took some time to practice with the camera. Here is one shot he took from out front yard.

Then I came home from doing my errands and noticed the two pups taking a sunbath on the sofa. They both looked so cute that I grabbed the camera and took these two shots.
Anneliese
Arnie
It’s just a week now and we will be off. Our house sitter is all set to move in and Emily and the neighbors are all set to back her up!
I am so excited!!!
What Did You Do With My Hearing Aids?
I was having a fairly easy going day today. I’d straightened out my closet, brought some things into the formal dining room to put in the big suitcase we will use on our trip, and even unpacked our ski parkas and hung them up in anticipation of a good season once we return from our trip.
I remembered that Hubby had a meeting to go to, and I reminded him. He dashed into the house and changed his clothes, shaved and began pacing around. Where did he leave his hearing aid? He knew I had it in my big purse. I looked and no, it wasn’t in there.
I looked in my closet. I looked in his closet. I looked in his dresser, his bedside table, the coffee table. My heart sank. Those things are expensive!
He had to leave, and he left me to “find” them.
Oh, great. No stress there!
Off he went. I looked everywhere again, twice, three times. I tried to remember the last time that he’d actually used them. (He hasn’t adjusted to all the noise yet.)
My heart was racing and I started to sweat. As if there wasn’t enough stress at the moment, Arnie started dancing around because he had to go out to do his business.
Then it hit me. I’m not sure why, (Perhaps I have a Fairy God Mother after all!) but I went back into his closet and went to his suit jacket. I reached into the pocket and there it was,n the case holding his hearing aids! Joy filled my heart. Blessed relief! Then I got a little angry and stood in the middle of the floor and screamed!
Hubby will be home in an hour or so and then I plan to make him beg for my forgiveness! If he is very sweet, I shall consider it!
PS: Hubby said it was a great meeting. He couldn’t hear a thing!
