It’s Spring!!!

Spring has come to the Dackel Princess household. It was in the upper 70’s and so totally beautiful that Hubby worked outside and I worked inside, spring cleaning. I did take time to go out and take a few pictures of our much anticipated springtime!!!

We can now fly our flag once again!

April 19 the lake

You can see that our lake is still frozen! I guess it will be a little while longer until the open water returns.

Hubby is going to go skiing in the morning. I plan more spring cleaning and perhaps a leisurely moment sipping my coffee and reading the Sunday newspaper. The best way to spend a Sunday!

A Wonderful Spring Day!

It was a very busy day for me today, but all in a good way, so there will be no complaining. Here is how I spent this wonderful spring day.

After getting up and making breakfast and sending Hubby off to ski (Day 57), I poured myself a coffee and got the two new pillows I’d purchased a few days ago, put them back in their bag and tossed them in the trunk of the car to return to the store.

Those of you who have been with me a while will recall that I have major pillow problems and my quest for the right pillow continues to this day. I thought I had found a good pillow last week, but alas, I was incorrect and found that these pillows were so hard that we felt like we were sleeping on concrete! So back they have gone. Now the quest begins again! This isn’t a complaint, just more of a long term search that isn’t over yet.

After I dropped those off, I went to a coffee shop and met up with my girlfriend, Barbie, for a coffee and a chat. We sat there for a long time talking and laughing and speculating on whether or not Greta is with children. Barbie is the proud Mama of Greta’s boyfriend, Bernie.

We dropped in at LL Bean and I found the cutest tote for myself, an LL Bean tote with a dachshund on it! I mean, it is so totally ME!

I said good-bye to Barbie then and hopped on the highway to head back north, intending to shop for food at the grocery and personal items at Wal-Mart. I was enjoying the ride, as today was just a perfect spring day, sunny, about 70 degrees (F) and not a cloud in the sky. I put on the satellite radio and sang my heart out!

Just then my cell phone went off and it was Hubby. He was done for the day skiing and was heading home. I explained what I was up to and he decided to meet me at the grocery store and then go out to our favorite Chinese Buffet for lunch. I just love this place because they have so many wonderful vegetables and salads and I do not have to stray from my Weight Watchers program.

So I drove to Wal-Mart and got the things I needed there and then met Hubby at the grocery store. We got that job done quickly and then we both needed to stop and fill up our cars with gas. Okay, we all know the price of gas, so I won’t go into how much we paid. Let’s just say we’re spending our kid’s inheritance each time we need to fill up!

Lunch was so relaxing and the food was great. I had my vegetable egg foo yung and hot and sour soup and salad. Yum, yum, yum!!!

We drove home, put everything away and played outside with the dogs for a bit, before sitting down to check our e-mail. I was going through mine and I saw a post from Hubby. I read it and it was such a funny joke that I started laughing and he knew immediately what I was laughing about and he started to laugh again too. Yep, life on the Internet!

Kimmie was over right after school today with a book she’d taken out of the school library. She came up to the door and asked for Hubby! Then she came in and wanted to read with him. It was so much fun to watch them.

I made a new recipe tonight using Dover Sole, Baby Bok Choy, and lots of ginger. It actually came out pretty well, although next time I will do a few things a little differently. However, I just adore the Baby Bok Choy. Oh, that is just the best!

Now the day is ending, and I’m sitting here with Greta beside me. I’m hoping she is pregnant. I am sort of thinking that she is. There is just something in the way she is acting. Keep your fingers crossed!

Time for a cup of tea. The perfect end to a perfect day!

My Laptop & Spring!

With the fan fixed and the laptop no longer threatening to burst into flames, I went down to the shop today and brought her home. It’s a sad thing, you know. I’d had such high hopes for her back when she arrived. The excitement I felt, the happiness, and now I know that her time with me can be counted in mere months.

My computer Guru got her together enough that I can use her, but she will never be together enough again for me to bring anywhere and use on the road. However this does buy me some time to search for a new machine.

It was another beautiful day here in New Hampshire, with temperatures in the upper 50’s and lots and lots of melting! Hubby went for his 55th day of skiing, and had fairly good conditions as well as beautiful views!

I re-potted my basil plant and decided that my first planting of Eggplants did not germinate, so I’m off tomorrow to get another packet of seeds to sow. In another 10 days I will start the rest of my vegetable seeds for the garden. Oh how good it will be to have fresh vegetables from my own garden!

Ah yes, spring has finally come to New Hampshire and I sure am ready for it!

It’s Mud Season!!!

Sunday was a nice, fairly quiet day, with the exception of our trip out to the Chinese Buffet for lunch. Sundays they have King Crab legs on the buffet and it is really wonderful! So off we went. Surprisingly, the restaurant was not overburdened with customers. So we ate and enjoyed and when we were done we left for home.

Hubby decided to take the scenic route across a hill around a lake. Normally this wouldn’t be bad, but with temperatures in the 50’s and all the melting we have had, we are smack dab in the middle of “MUD SEASON”!!! We were driving along a scenic road when we found a sea of mud in front of us. The worst part was, we had no place else to go but forward. It took us the better part of an hour to work our way home though the muddy roads of central New Hampshire before we found tarred roads. We stopped for a full car wash before returning home. Was I a happy girl!

One truly precious thing happened today. I was getting dressed while Hubby was skiing and Kimmie was waiting for me. I opened the door quietly to check on her and what did I see? There Kimmie was, sitting in my chair with the dogs all around her and she was reading the Dick and Jane books to them. It was just the sweetest thing ever.

April

Our last day in March we decided to do some errands. Despite the fact that it was snowing again (yes, more snow, because after getting 115 inches of the white stuff this year we haven’t had enough!) Hubby wanted to look at some fruit trees, and I needed to do some grocery shopping. Because Greta is still in the throws of her heat, we once again brought Arnie with us. This cute little boy is getting to be a joy to travel with.

We went and looked at the fruit trees and then stopped at a computer shop to look at scanners, and while Hubby spoke to the sales representative, I went next door to Borders Books and stood in front of the coffee counter. Can I tell you how wonderful it smelled? Oh dear!

“Excuse me, how do you make your Mocha Java Coffee?” I asked.

“We use double chocolate fudge sauce.” the girl replied.

“Oh.” I said feeling lost and forlorn. “Could you make me an Espresso with some skim milk?”

“Are you on a diet?” she asked.

“Yes, Weight Watchers.” I replied.

“Listen, let me make you a special Cappuccino.” she said. “Do you use Splenda or anything?”

“Yes.”

“Go an get the packets you need over there and I’ll make you something really special”.

So I went and got the packets of Splenda at the help yourself counter and brought them back. I could hear the machine whirring and frothing and soon she presented me with a cup of sheer delight!

“It’s only got 1/4 cup of skim milk in it, but it looks like more because it’s been frothed, I hope you like it.”

I put the cup to my lips and sipped. Oh my absolute Heaven! It was soooo good! I tipped her well. What a nice person she was, and that was the best Cappuccino I have had in a very long time!!!

Hubby and I did our grocery shopping before coming back home and getting ready for Bernie’s second visit.

The poor boy is working so hard to win over my fickle female, and the exhaustion was showing. Greta was a bit more receptive today and I think we came extremely close to calling it a home run. Personally, I think Greta likes the idea of scoring a home run with Bernie on April Fools Day! I think it appeals to her slightly strange sense of humor.

So Bernie will come here on April Fools Day in the late morning to try to woo her again.

Day Light Saving & Greta

Today I simply didn’t want to get up. Hubby woke early, as he was going to go skiing, but while he got himself ready for the slopes, I pulled the covers over my head and tried to remain asleep. I thought I was going to get away with it, but then Hubby said, “Aren’t you going to get up?” and I knew that I really needed to do just that.

The clocks changed over the weekend, and we lost an hour as we “sprang forward”! This is always so hard for me to do. Somehow in the Autumn when we “fall back” an hour I can handle that. An extra hour of sleep is always most welcome.

The other dilemma with this whole clock changing thing is that the dogs just don’t get it. I try to explain to them that they should sleep in and let me sleep too, but once that sun starts rising early, well they are literally up with the birds!

Their other problem is dinner time. They eat at exactly 5 PM, and anything that changes this, upsets their little doggy routine.

So while Hubby skied, I took Greta in for her yearly exam and shots. She is well and was thrilled to be the only dog going for a ride in the car. A real treat for her.

Playing!

The puppies had their first year Vet visit today. They were weighed (Arnie was 18.8 pounds and Anneliese was 16.2 pounds), examined and given all their shots. They were exceptionally good pups, until a teacup poodle and his owner entered the clinic and then they began to bark like two wild maniacs! The old man looked down his nose at them, and then glared at me and said, “I think you need the Dog Whisperer!”

The funny thing is, had he just put the dog down, my two would have played with it and all would have been fine. In any case, I felt firmly chastised for being the owner of these two little, wild, beasts! LOL!

Next week is Greta’s appointment for her shots, and then in April Fritz will go have his teeth cleaned and get all his shots done.

I stopped at the New Hampshire Crafts Shop to visit my friend, with both puppies, as well as the Post Office. The pups loved this, and everyone was pleased to see them too.

It actually became sunny and a bit warm (40 degrees F) by noon. Emily had a half day of school, so once she was here, we had lunch and after that we went out to play with the dogs.

Hubby worked on the path around the house again today, blowing the snow back down to a passable pathway. Then we came in and Emily and I did some computer work together, looked at magazines and chatted until it was time for her to go home.

All in all, a very nice day!

The Snow

Fritz and I took a walk around the yard with the video camera today. I wanted to show you all how deep the snow is. What I found was deep snow, and places where the snow had drifted in and I suddenly found myself sinking up to my thighs!

The wind was blowing hard, so the audio isn’t the best. Please forgive me! But I did try to narrate so you would know what you were seeing. I also made a few mistakes with my English, thus proving that ones native language is not always easily spoken! LOL

So, without further ado, may I present, New Hampshire’s near record breaking snow!

Spaghetti, Skiing & More Snow

Life is never dull around here, that’s for sure. Today found me trying to get a few things done before another 12 inches of snow falls. (Yes, more snow in my already overloaded back yard!)

I started with the help of Sarah, who arrived shortly after breakfast, and assisted me in getting a batch of Weight Watchers spaghetti sauce going on the stove. Hubby was off skiing today, as he is sure to be out snow blowing tomorrow after the storm.

While Sarah and I worked, the dogs played and I stopped briefly to capture a few pictures. Like this one of Arnie as he played!

Feb 26 008

Once the sauce was simmering, I made a nice warm fire in the hearth. There is something about snowy weather that just forces me to build a fire and then sit back and enjoy it. Sarah loved it too!

Feb 262 008

After a while Hubby returned from the slopes of Cannon Mountain, and we made him lunch, and he told us about his morning skiing.

Feb 26 001

Now it is the evening. The snow is coming down harder and I am actually believing that we will get the forecast amount of snow. I’m just not sure where it will go, as our town is quite literally buried under all the snow. Our yard must have a good four feet in it, and around town the snow is piled so high you can hardly see to pull out in traffic. In all my 49 years, I have never seen this much snow in the parts of New England where I have lived.

The dogs just came in and collapsed by the fire and I had to snap this shot of Fritz and Anneliese.

Ah the end to another snowy day.
