Seventy-Seven

Seventy-seven years ago today, Hubby was born in Boston, Massachusetts.

Oct 07 069

His parents were immigrants from Canada, both having come to Boston to find work in the early 1930’s. Hubby was a first generation American. Something his mother was very proud of. She loved her native Nova Scotia, Canada, but she also loved America and the opportunities it gave those willing to work hard.

Anyway, Hubby came into this world on May 4th, and after a few days his parents brought him home to their house in New Hampshire. My guy may have been born in Boston, but in his heart he has always been a New Hampshire boy!

I missed most of his life, coming into it during his late forties, when our children met and became playmates. For a very long time, we were just friends. Then when both our marriages fell apart, our friendship began to deepen, and eventually we married.

Anyway, today I celebrate this special day. The birth of the man that I have called best friend, husband and lover, all of these years. Know more than anything, that you are loved very deeply.

Happy Birthday!

TBT: 27 Years

Twenty-seven years ago today, Hubby and I said “I do”. For better or worse, in sickness and in health, our journey together has gone on.

We’ve always been there for each other, and together, I don’t think there is anything we can’t get through. It’s really a stroke of luck, when you marry your best friend.

No matter where I am, when I wake up in the morning, or just before I go to bed at night, I want to talk to Hubby and tell him all about the day.

So, Happy Anniversary Hubby!!!

The Reports Of My Death Have Been Greatly Exaggerated

Recently, I got a letter of condolence from an old friend of Hubby’s. I was very confused by this, as at that moment, Hubby was alive and well, and sitting across from me in the family room.

Upon finishing the letter, we realized that he had not gotten our Christmas card and annual letter. Thus listing all the things we had done in 2014. Lots of fun things. Certainly no “Weekend at Bernies” .

Since we did not have an email address or a phone number for this friend in England, we did what normal people have done for centuries…we wrote a letter.

We included pictures, to show Hubby was still alive, and included our phone numbers and email addresses. Then we went to the Post Office, got the correct postage for this missive, and then kept our fingers crossed that this would work.

It took two and a half weeks, but two days ago, we heard from this friend, via email. He was quite happy to hear that his old friend is, in fact, alive and well.

So the Post Office failed at Christmas, but at least the second letter got through. All of this made me realize that having a back up email address is really important!

So next time you think a friend may have gone to his eternal rest, send an email, or at the very least check the obituaries.

Cookin’

Saturday was another busy day for me. Lately my days all begin with cleaning the puppy room. My little Lili has been having a rough time, and on Monday will be going back in to see her doctor. After that, I imagine testing will be done, but our poor little puppy is one sick girl.

She is settling in though. She comes to Hubby and I for comfort, and she is getting along with the other dogs much better. It just breaks my heart to see her so ill.

Today was a cooking day for me. I literally started cooking at 10 AM and didn’t stop until after 8 o’clock PM. Needless to say, I am beat!

Hubby keeps asking me why I am in bed at night by 9 PM? Well, between putting up the veggies from our garden, taking car of the dogs, and cooking three meals a day (oh yeah, and cleaning them up), I get tired! I’m not as young as I used to be!

Hubby is doing well. Although I look at his face and nearly faint. I’m wishy washy like that. Now if it was me, I’d do much better, but seeing him with a bloody cheek and shoulder, and honestly, I almost swoon!

Night all, it another 9 PM bedtime for me!

Scenes From A VA

Thursday was just one long day! I was up at 4:15 with Hubby, and after walking the dogs, we grabbed our jackets and headed out!

We were “thisclose” to being out of gas, so we prayed a lot and headed to the nearest gas station. That’s 7 miles away. We managed to make it there, and when we stopped, Hubby filled the tank and I grabbed a coffee.

Traffic wasn’t too bad until we were in Boston and hit Storrow Drive. Then it came to a quick and long stop!

It took us 40 minutes to arrive at the hospital, which under normal conditions should only have taken us ten minutes. However, we made it in plenty of time, and very quickly a nurse from China took us in so Hubby could be prepped.

She was adorable! After getting him in she turned and asked if I was Hubby’s daughter. Now, you all know that this made my day! I told her he was lucky, to be married to a hot chick like me! lol

Soon they wheeled him off to the Operating Room and I was shown to the Waiting Room. I had some coffee, I spoke with another Veteran awaiting care and then I waited.

What I learned from this was that…I do not wait well. Finally a nurse came out and wanted Hubby’s clothes. He had told me not to give them to anyone, and I told the nurse no. I said I would go with her and assist my husband.

Well, she just got one giant goober on her about this and would not let me go in. I held my ground, and no clothes went in. Half an hour later a second nurse (I will call her the BULLY) came out and told me to give her his clothes. I tried to fight her, but frankly, I thought she could probably take me! So I kept his wallet, watch, cell phone and pocket knife and gave her the rest.

Half an hour later they showed me into his room. He still wasn’t dressed. So I helped him and after another half an hour they let us go with instructions to get his pain meds in the pharmacy. Great, but Hubby had a short appointment to get his hearing aids repaired.

When we got to the pharmacy we expected to glide on through, only to find out that he had to officially check in to get the prescription filled.

After half an hour the prescription was filled and we were on our way home! That is, once we found our way through the maze that is Boston!

And we both are exhausted!

Hubby Goes Under The Knife

I’m getting ready for Hubby’s Melanoma sugery today. Kindle, MP3 player, cell phone. All packed and I am ready to roll.

By this time tomrrow, we will be back home and Hubby will be cancer free! Yay!

I knew this was Melanoma all along. But you know, doctors think they know everything! Finally his VA Dermatologist tested it, and sure enough, I was right!

Wish him luck!

Hubby

I’ve been thinking a lot about Hubby lately. He has a couple of different kinds of skin cancers and needs both surgery and skin grafting. I worry. I know I have been through something similar, but it wasn’t Malenoma and so I’m worried. Surgery is sceduled for July 24th. The plan to use general anesthesia. I’ll be there, scared and worrying. Because that is what I do best.

Meanwhile…
