Home vs Away

People often do not consider how much an animal can miss them. I knew that this September would be difficult for the dogs, with our two trips occurring back to back. However the strangest thing about our absence has been which dog was affected the most.

Today as I did laundry and cleaned the house, I noticed Greta was stuck to me like glue. If I went into a room she followed me. If I sat down, she was in my lap. If I went to wash a few dishes, she was sitting on my feet. At one point I had to actually sit down with her and stroke her because she was shaking and demanding to be held.

Who would have thought that our Alpha female dog, the Queen Bee of our house, was going to be the one who missed us the most? Surely, Fritz would be the one, but no. Seems he loves our house sitter, Dori, so he was just fine.

Now we are home for 6 weeks before we leave for our trip through the Panama Canal. A long planned vacation which we both have wanted to take. The canal being one of the great achievements of the American Government back in the days when others had tried and failed.

After that, we are home for a long while. Quite happily, I might add. For as much as I enjoy traveling, my heart is always happiest when I am in my home, with Hubby and our doggies.

  1. Poor Greta! Dogs have emotions and feelings just like us. She was missing you something fierce, I bet. She was worried for you too. She is just so, so sweet.

Your vacation sounds awesome!! Maybe get in extra doggie hugs before that time, and Greta won’t fret so much.

I look forward to hearing about your adventure. :x)

  2. I just catched up on your latest news, with the bad internet connection in Italy I was unable to comment. Very frustrating. I had the same with my little cat Rosie when I came back she really glued on me. And during the night she woke me up several times because she purred that loud and tried to wash my face. At the Garda Lake I love to go in restaurants the food is soooo good and healthy. No Mac Donalds, no hamburger whatsoever and no fastfood either. Yes you could buy a slice of Pizza or a plate of pasta, but it was sold by people who did it themselves and so it tasted homemade, no Pizza Hut way ! Fast food restaurants would go bankrupt immediately if you would dare to eat it they would consider you as eating from a garbadge bin. Probably it exists in big towns like Rome and Milano but certainly not in small towns.
When are you going on your Panama trip ?
I will leave once again this year for 2 weeks Egypt but Mr. Gattino stays home he prefers his cats to a trip, lol !

  3. Awww, sweet Greta!! and yes, it is always nice to be back home (even if you don’t have pets, like it is my case!)
Your trip sounds wonderful! Mr Mar crossed the Panama Canal once in a sailing boat back in 1983, I wonder where those pictures are…

  4. Hi Mom,
Hope you are having a nice morning–at home! 🙂 I am in the office today. I talked with my doc yesterday, and she said she didn’t think waiting for the antibiotics to work was a bad choice. She listened to the dictation from my other visit yesterday. They think it may be an epidermal inclusion cyst? I will keep you posted….
    Love you,
    Mandy

  5. I’m glad your home too! We took a cruise through the Panama Canal, and let me tell you, I was mesmerized by the whole thing! Youre going to so enjoy that trip! Thanks for visiting my Saturday Photo Hunt early sweetie…I really missed you! oh, I already said that! Greta wasnt the only one! lol..Becci

  6. I know you are traveling a lot and I do hope you’ll have a great time and good to know you have someone who loves you to come home too:-)

Btw: Come on over – you’ve been tagged!

  7. That is exactly the reason for me not having a dog – too much travel wishes… I couldn’t stand leaving the dog all the time and it would not be fair to the dog either. No, I have to think about the dog in the first place.
