Being A Mom

This will be short because today has been a long day and I am beyond tired, but here I go.

My daughter had to have some surgery today. It was difficult and truly unpleasant for her and I went down to lend moral support and comfort to her. (I truly hope I did both)

What I discovered was, no matter how old your kids get, they are always your children and that heart stopping, worrying is still there. Of course the easiest thing is that you get to ask them coherent questions about their pain and get straight answers.

However, I’m here to tell you that not matter what, you as a parent would gladly exchange places with your child to ease the pain they are in.

Mandy was brave, she was strong and she came through the surgery very well. I was so proud of the way that she handled herself and the position that she found herself in.

I was thinking about staying overnight, but then M. arrived and he took over the comforting roll, and I drove home.

Now it is bedtime for this Mommy and I know before I can sleep even a moment, it will be morning once again.

  1. Awwww… yes… they will always be our babies… no matter what. I’m so glad you were able to be there for her. I know she needed you.

  2. I am glad you were able to go and see her. It’s a “relief” if you can at least BE with her… and I am glad everything went well.

  3. You are a good Mom and I know the feeling of wishing you could do anything for your children just to make it better. One of the worst experiences in life is when your kid is hurting and you can’t just kiss it and make it better!

  4. Dear you,

I’ve been thinking about you and yours – and what you privatly have written to me.

I can only say here, as everybody can see and read:
I love you and your family and bless you all

  5. Hi Mom,

I’m home now! Thankfully! Just wanted to send a quick note to say thanks for being there yesterday! I really appreciated it!
Hope you have a great weekend!

    Love you,
    Mandy

  6. oh my. such an painful experience. Phew. I’m glad that it all went well and that you could be there for her in that difficult moment. That is something we really wished that we could avoid totally….

    ((hugs))

  7. She is a beautiful puppy and your friend is lovely, too.
Glad your daughter got to the doc and is getting well. You are so right about worrying about the kids.

Hope your scarf is coming along well. I’ve nearly finished part two of a three or five part afghan depending on how wide I decide it needs to be.

Take care and get your rest. You can’t help them if you are worn out yourself.

  8. Hi Maribeth
My daughter is 25 and she will always be my baby girl, no matter what. She got her wisdom teeth removed and I got to be mommy to her again and I have to say that I loved it. Somedays, I wish we could be back to when she was little, but always I love her as she is now. Michele
