Shopping For Thanksgiving

When we arrived home last night the first thing we noticed (after our herd of happy doggies), was that we needed food. The local grocery store was closed, so I scrounged around this morning and was able to make breakfast for Hubby and myself. However, the cupboard was bare for anything that might pass for a lunch.

A new grocery shop opened in our town, so today we decided to get our food and the last things needed for Thanksgiving.

It’s just going to be Hubby and me for turkey day, but since I love Thanksgiving more than anything (I LOVE cooking it), I am more than excited that it is almost here!

In other news, Greta is at the height of her heat and driving Arnie wild/ It got so bad today that we finally had to put Arnie in a crate at the other end of the house with the door closed. We had to listen to the howling, the barking and the call of the wild for a while, but finally, thank goodness, it is quiet!

I do miss the laziness of the cruise ship. How lovely it was to wake up in the morning and have coffee and breakfast all ready for you.

We would sit next to a window and sip our coffees and enjoy the beauty all around us. Yes, I miss that ship!

Now onward to Turkey Day!

  1. Hi Mom,

Thanks for the advice about making and storing the bread. It sure was an interesting experience. I will share with you and your readers–with the side note that I do not have a ton of cooking/domestic experience (as you already know!)

So, I wanted to make 4 loaves of applesauce nut bread. This required making two different mixtures, one liquid, one flour and spices, which would need to be combined together. I didn’t really think about the fact that I did not have a bowl large enough to be able to combine the two mixtures, so then had to measure out equal amounts of each mixture in multiple bowls. Mistake number one.

About 10 minutes into the bread cooking, I realized I had not sprinkled brown sugar on top of each loaf. I thought about it–I had sprinkled nuts, cinnamon and sugar already–but then wanted to add some brown sugar. So I pulled out the rack from the oven, and before I could do anything about it, two of the loaves flew right out of the oven, and SPLAT, all over the oven door and floor!!!!! Mistake number two was a big mistake, and cost me two of the four loaves I was making!!

So, I finished cooking the other two–brought one in for my work Thanksgiving party, and kept the second for M and I. We tried it last night, and it was delicious! But, now I need to make two more loaves to bring to his Aunt and Uncles house!

I thought you would get a kick out of that one!

I did make a spaghetti with meat (ground turkey) sauce for M and I for dinner, which came out excellent, and with no mistakes! (lol)

    Love you lots,

    Mandy

  2. Yes… I miss that ship and the coffee too…

I know you LOVE those puppies! Anyone who would put up with all that howling and moaning … and puppy panties a couple of times a year, just for the FUN of reproducing them… that is TRUE LOVE!

  3. haha, whenever you talk of “Greta” now, I am like “What? You know my niece”? 🙂 🙂
P.S. I can imagine that you miss the cruise. Can you believe how fast time flew by??
