Wednesday Hodgepodge

1. Share one fun thing you did last week, while the Hodgepodge was on ‘spring break’.

I went through a bunch of old pictures and I made an anniversary montage for our 25th wedding anniversary, which was yesterday! Go back one post and you can watch it, if you missed it yesterday.

2. April 10th is National Sibling Day…do you have siblings, and if so are you close? Share a favorite story featuring one or all of your siblings. If you don’t have siblings, did you ever wish you did?

I had two sinlings. My brother passed away in 1977, but I am lucky to still have my sister. It is so hard to recall just one favorite story. I have so many of her. Here is one. We shared a room when I was about 11 years old. It was the summer and my cousin, Janet was visiting and as we all were lying in our beds, Mel was telling us a story. I was so tired I drifted off to sleep and when I woke, not realizing I had slept I remember calling out, “aren’t you going to finish the story?” and no one answered with words, just loud snores!

I could also tell you about all the stories she told me when we would stand doing the dishes, and I would tell her not to start the story with “Once upon a time”, and she would promise me that she wouldn’t, and then she began…”Once upon a time” and we both would break out in laughter!

3. Is it important to you to ‘buy American’? Why or why not? How much of an effort do you make to ‘buy American’? If you’re not American, insert your own country in the blank.

It is very important. Both Hubby and I try to buy American or locally made. It gets harder all the time.

4. Besides The Bible, what book has impacted your spirituality in some way?

The Episcopalian Book of Common Prayer. I still read the services from time to time.

5. April showers bring May flowers or so the saying goes. Do you find rainy days calming or depressing? When were you last caught in a rainstorm? What’s blooming in your neck of the woods today?

I love the rain. It is so much easier on my eyes. What’s blooming…okay this is actually funny. Two years ago I planted tulips and crocuses in my yard. They never came up! I was so upset. So last fall, I did not plant anything! Well, guess what? They all came up this year! Isn’t that strange?

6. What’s your favorite yellow food?

Corn on the cob!!!

7. April is National Poetry Month…what’s a poem that holds special meaning for you, and why is it special?

Four-Feet

By Rudyard Kipling

I have done mostly what most men do,
And pushed it out of my mind;
But I can’t forget, if I wanted to,
Four-Feet trotting behind.

Day after day, the whole day through
Wherever my road inclined
Four-feet said, “I am coming with you!”
And trotted along behind.

Now I must go by some other round,
Which I shall never find
Somewhere that does not carry the sound
Of Four-Feet trotting behind.

8. Insert your own random thought here.

I am going to my niece’s wedding on Friday. I was nervous about going due to my horribly disfigured face. However, I have been going out and seeing people, and so far no one has run off screaming with freight, or fainted! So I gave myself a talking to and I am ready to face the world! (No pun intended!)

  1. People love you for you. You will also act as a good public service announcement and remind people to get their own skin checked for skin cancers!

Go have fun and I am sure it will lift your spirits!

  2. That’s funny ! People in each country try to buy “local” ! Saturday on the market I looked at bedsheets and the lady said “It’s made in Belgium” !! That’s the same with fruits and vegetables, but as there are no fruits around here I can’t buy “local” !

  3. I think that people place far too much emphasis on external beauty. You are gorgeous no matter what, inside and out. There, I said it.

  4. I can’t wait to see you and everyone at the wedding. It is going to be a very special day and we are sharing it with very special people! Love YOU, Mel
