Kathleen Alynne November 8th 1978

My youngest daughter Katie was born 28 years ago at 5:29 AM. She weighed 8 pounds and 10 ounces, and was 23 inches long. She had little red curls and green eyes.

As Katie grew she was best friends with her sister, Amanda. They went everywhere together, did everything together and more than anything loved each other deeply.

Katie was a happy child. I enjoyed her sense of humor, her quick smile and her silly little giggle and the dimples she had in her cheeks! They somehow suited her red curls and green eyes, making her look a bit like an elf!

I was lucky to have her in my life for 6 1/2 years. Yes, it should have been more, many, many, more, but I am grateful for the time we had and for the love we shared.

So, today on her birthday I will think of her with love, and yes, an ache too. Until the day when God reunites us, our love will remain, somehow frozen in time.

  1. Happy Birthday Katie. Maribeth, may you and Amanda and Bob too, be surrounded with all of the wonderful memories of your sweet little girl, on her birthday and everyday. The slide show is amazing, thank God for photos. Love, Michele

  2. So incredibly cute…but then I’m partial to redheads. In her kindergarten pic…she looks so much like Janet it’s not funny.

I’m so sorry sweetie. So sorry she’s not here with you.
    Hugs.

  5. Hi Mom,
Hard to believe that Katie would have been 28 years old today…. The slide show did come out great. I too miss Katie so much, and wish that we could all celebrate her birthday together. Instead, we can all think of her with love, and think of each other with support and strength.
Here’s to Katie…. Happy Birthday up there! Hope you are having a good old party with Gramma Honey, Pappa Fred, “Uncle” Betty, Papa Bobby, etc.!
Look at the love all around you today, Mom, from your pets, from Jack, from me, and from all these people who post on your board! 🙂
    Love,
    Mandy

  11. I will echo some of the things that have already been said here…. she is beautiful! When we lose someone we love, part of the loss never leaves us. I am so humbled at your openness to show the world how much you love and miss your baby.
You will be in my prayers today. Thank you

  12. I’m so sorry Katie isn’t here to celebrate with. I’m going upstairs right now to watch my own six-and-a-half-year-old daughter sleep.

    Lovely pictures, lovely girls.

  13. Happy Birthday, Sweet Katie.

I realize that she is my age, we would have been in the same grade. I know how much I love my mother, I don’t tell her enough. I hope Katie gets a message to you today.

What a loving tribute to such a beautiful red headed baby girl. Both your girls are beautiful.

  14. I had my wonderful son Michael for 15 years. I will think about your daughter and my son today. Actually, as you know, it’s an everyday occurrence.

  15. She is such a smiling cute little elf!! Thank you for sharing that wonderful slide show Maribeth.

I love the picture with you and her and the dog all snuggling, and her and Mandy in the red dresses and the one of you three together with Mandy in a crown/tiara!
