Getting It Done

I was singing,

“Just hear those sleigh bells jinglin’, ring ting tinglin’ to
Come on it’s lovely weather for a sleigh ride together with you
The snow is fallin’ and friends are callin’ “you-who”
Come on it’s lovely weather for a sleigh ride together with, you”

as I sat wrapping gifts. After a half an hour, I stopped and grabbed the phone.

“Hello? Do you have any classes for remedial package wrapping?”

They didn’t. So I sat there looking at packages I had wrapped and packages to be wrapped and I realized I was screwed! It is just not my strong suit. Oh, I try. I carefully cut the paper, I try hard to line everything up, and I desperately try not to tape myself to each item. In the end, I have tape stuck to my elbow and eye brow! Don’t even ask me how it gets there.

I looked at Fritz. “You want to try?”

He looked at me, with laughter in his eyes and got up and left the room. So it was me, and miles of Santa Claus wrapping paper and my tape.

I tried to calm down by reminding myself that it is, after all, the thought that counts, right? But then I looked at the square little packages with the ill fitting paper and I can feel the tears well up inside.

I had turned on Martha Stewart’s program and they were decorating packages with live holly and icicles that they made from paper mache! I wondered then, what was wrong with me, that I couldn’t even tape two pieces of paper together to form a straight line?

I am gift wrapping challenged.

I stopped and sat there once again looking at the wrapped and unwrapped packages. I simply refuse to use gift bags unless I am under the gun time wise. I love to see people ripping the paper I have so carefully tried to tape together.

So what’s a girl to do? I know I can never hope to be Martha Stewart, and there are still a few more days left until Christmas, so I’m not out of time, I’ll simply have to suck it up and hope that my family loves me enough to forgive the poorly wrapped presents.

Can someone pass the tape?

  1. Awww…honey, if I was there we could wrap ’em together. My mother worked for Hallmark Cards for 33 years. I know how to wrap packages.

  2. haha girl you are SO much like me!! Not only am I wrapping-paper challenged, I cannot cut a straight line to save my life. EVEN IF THERE IS A LINE FOR ME TO CUT ON. It’s absolutely terrible.

  3. OH my god…. What a tackle 🙂 I can get part of the feeling, because I feel it sometimes when I begin the wrapping, but then suddenly it solves by itself.

Something happens and I get going and good too. Maybe I get help from the elfs 😉

  4. I lucked out because our mutual Xmas present is the ski vacation and the ski passes…kind of hard to wrap, lol!
    Merry Xmas!

  5. Girlie girl….there is absolutely NOTHING wrong with gift bags. With some tissue paper tucked around the gift….they are really really fine.

Actually, of course, I am a Martha devotee, of sorts. What I like to do is make gift bags from material. There are such delightful Christmas fabrics available. And sewing a gift bag is the easiest thing in the world.

    Anywhoo – like I said….GIFT BAGS~~that you purchase. That’s the ticket.

  6. Rapping Challenged ~ ha ha ha

I don’t mind wrapping if I have the time to do it because it’s important to me to match the tags and bows to the paper colour etc. I’m pretty meticulous.

I think gift bags are okay too and I use them. Some have such nice pictures and features, they are too pretty to pass up. I buy coordinating tissue paper and those swirly bows and they look beautiful.

It helps to do it with Christmas music playing or a Christmas movie on TV.

Anyways, my dear, I just want to wish you and hubby and Fritz and Greta and Anneliese and Angelika and Anya and Anita and Arnie and Amanda a wonderful Christmas!

And thank you so much for the gift for me stocking ~ a wonderful wirehaired dachshund puppy! I would take Anya if I could. 😉

    Blessings to you for Christmas~

  7. I was gift wrap challenged until I received a lesson from my cousin. She cuts the paper a little long and at the longer seam folds the paper like an accordion it hides the uneven cut and the tape as well. Happy Holidays…I’ve got to get my wrapping done too!
