Antique

When I was a little girl, I would go to visit my grandparents quite often. They had a few toys at their home on Murdock Street in Brighton, Massachusetts, but the toy I always wanted to play with was the wooden Noah Ark. It had been my grandfather’s toy when he was a child in Germany (Papa was born in 1897) and came to this country with him when he was 9 years old. It was very fragile and I was only allowed to play with it in their living room while I was being very, very careful. I spent many hours playing with this wooden ark filled with hand carved animals and of course Noah’s family. It sits in my family room now, untouched by anyone but me, and when I do touch it, I am taken back to those long ago days when Papa and Grandma had me at their home and I played, happily.

  1. This is the first time I have been to your blog. It is very lovely. Great dog photos! 🙂 And the Noah’s Ark is very special. I can understand why you cherish it.

My photos are posted, too. Drop by!

  2. This must bring back some very special memories for you every time you look at it. You’re so lucky to have such a precious reminder of happy days at your grandparents’ house!

  3. What a lovely memory and the Noah’s Ark is so well preserved! I have a real affection for Noah’s Ark too and have enjoyed putting together a little are for when my grand baby gets older. 🙂 Hopefully they will remember with the same fondness!

  4. Beautiful, Maribeth!! such lovely antique and memories!!! The ark has been very well taken care of.
    happy weekend 🙂

  5. This is wonderful!
Fabulous toy—I don’t know about you, but seeing these ‘antiques’ this week makes me feel ancient!!! I remember most I’m seeing so far….from my childhood.
My antiques photos have been posted. Happy weekend.

  6. That is absolutely gorgeous and so hard to resist for a child. I have seen a few sets similar but none as colorful or in such good condition. Stunning.

  7. Kids could play for days with toys like that. They stimulated imagination! You can still get wooden toys here in Europe, but the computer is really taking over the toy market – sad, but true.
    Great choice!
    Mine’s up

  8. Wow! that really look antique! I wonder from which year it is… Simply precious i would say, especially with your affection value added to it.

I wish i had that kind of memory objects from my family or relatives. But nothing.

  9. A great memory to have. Thanks for sharing. I don’t think I have anything from my childhood; a chess set from when I was a teenager.
