Food

Okay, I know that you all have been dying to know how I did with my diet during my trip into Amish Country. Pennsylvania Dutch cooking is simple, homemade and just plain delicious. This is the kind of food that makes a Weight Watcher shake with fear!

And shake I did!!!

Now I tried to be good. I had packed Weight Watchers yogurt and Weight Watchers snack bars to keep me honest. On the first day I even made myself a turkey sandwich on diet bread. Oh, I was feeling strong!

Then came the dinner at the Angus Beef Steak house where I chowed down on Beef Wellington, which I sort of felt I could get away with because I didn’t have a baked potato with my meal, just a garden salad and no dessert. The next morning, however, I totally screwed up.

Pancakes, maple syrup and bacon!!!

Okay, I could get through this. I’d just make it up at lunch. What did they serve? Pulled Pork sandwiches, chips and cookies. I was good. I didn’t eat the cookies!

That night the banquet was amazing. The most delicious chicken cordon bleu ever, with baby red bliss potatoes in butter sauce, corn and green beans, salad and for dessert, triple chocolate mousse cake!

Yes, I knew then that I would burn in hell.

I also did not watch what I ate when we visited our friends in the Catskills. She is a remarkable German cook and I enjoyed every single bite of her cooking. Yes, every single bite!

So, what happened to me as a result? I gained a pound for all of my transgressions.

I’ve now hopped back onto the Weight Watchers train, and I am taking care of myself again. It makes me realize just how easy it is to slip back into old and bad habits.

Time to get out the carrot and celery sticks!

  1. One pound for all that yummy loveliness is not too shabby. And you knew you were going back on the wagon afterwards, that this was just a little cul-de-sac on your journey, so no harm done.

  2. You have to eat and sometimes when life throws you a lemon you can’t help but want some thing of comfort to eat. The important thing is to get right back on Weight Watchers and move on ahead. You did just that! Pat yourself on the back and don’t be hard on yourself. You deserve only the best! Love YOU, Mel

  3. Wow I didn’t realize you were going to be so close to where I live. I live about two hours top from Lancaster.
I hope you enjoyed your trip
If you can’t cheat once in a while you will end up cheating all of the time. You will get back on track

  4. I couldn’t agree more with Maribeth’s comment that you have to cheat every now and again, so that you can eat healthy most of the time. I no longer try to deprive myself of anything, and live by the notion of “everything in moderation.” Besides, 1 lb is really no big deal in the grand scheme of things. You have done so wonderfully with this diet, and over a long period of time. Just think, together we have lost almost 100 pounds!

Hope you have a great day! I’m relieved and so happy it is Friday. M has friends who just arrived from CA. I think we are going out in Boston with them tonight (may use hotel points to get a room at the Hilton). Saturday, as a surprise for his bday (which is Monday), I’m taking him to a rugby game. Sunday, we are hanging with the CA friends again.

    Love you lots,
    Mandy

  5. The most important is that you had a jolly good time and after all: carrot and celery is tasty too ๐Ÿ™‚

Wishing you a great end to your week.

  6. Oh, I so admire you that you can keep the diet at all, even at home! I totally can understand that you were having a feast… YUM.

    You’re strong. *applaud*

  7. Eating is part of life and we socialize with food. Maybe not so good an idea, but you have reached your goal weight, I think..been away for a while and what the heck. You were with friends and enjoying life in Amish country. Maybe you should have asked to scrub a floor to work off some of those calories. ๐Ÿ™‚ Glad you enjoyed yourself, my friend.
