The Dog Show

As many of you know, I was not exactly happy with the results of the dog show. I was, however, very happy with how Anneliese performed, and I felt very much at one with her as we walked the ring. She was a real pro and I have only good things to say about her.

Anneliese is a beauty. In my opinion she deserved better than she got, but then, politics has a lot to do with the actual scoring at many of these events. It was the first time this had happened to me and so it caught me off guard. I think I am still recovering. In fact I know I am. I feel slightly disillusioned and disappointed.

I’m grateful that I don’t have to show any more dogs. I will always be a dog owner. But I do not believe I will stay in the show ring. I simply cannot take the unfairness of the judging, or the politics behind it. A dog should be judged on their own merits.

Was Anneliese the best and most beautiful at the show? Probably not, but she did meet all the standards and should have been judged fairly.

It still hurts that she wasn’t.

  1. I think it always happens in these shows and has nothing to do with the dog or the cat or even models. There is always injustice. You know your dog best and what she really is ! that’s the most important ! don’t care what this bavarian guy said ! I even hate his jacket ! It’s not yet Halloween !

  2. Awwww… I’ve never really understood these dog and cat shows… but then, I’ve never paid tons of money for a pet either — we always rescue from the shelters… and my feelings have always been if they curl up in your lap and lick your face when you come home, they’re the best!!! Guess I don’t know much… LOL! YOU are right! Annaliese IS the best!

  3. Love the Pictures of the show. I think you are right to be upset, by all accounts this was not done fairly. We know the truth, She’s 100% The BEST doggie ever! Love YOU, Mel

  4. I’m so sorry that it was such a disappointment! I hate when things like that happens. Wish there were no such unfair things going on. But then, what can one do… *sigh*

Both Anneliese and you looked like beauties and doing a great job at the show!

  5. She’s such a beauty, I don’t understand it either. I’m sure I’m glad I didn’t ever decide to show Maxi~~

  6. It is unfortunate that there is so much bickering behind the scenes in this. We used to be members (and I was on the committee) for a rescue organisation for Greyhounds. But, as some on the committee had nothing more to do than be so self absorbed in it, no matter what I said or did, met to their approval.

I believe that Macc is a great dog, and I also believe that Anneliese is a great dog as well (even if the judge didn’t!)!!

  7. Hi Maribeth! It was great to see you at the show!

I am sorry you were not happy with the results of the show. (Are you referring to the judging of your dog in particular or all the dogs in general?) It takes a thick skin to have our princesses judged by someone else and, of course, it takes a thick skin to be a judge, too. I found this judge to be strict, but not unfair. Strict doesn’t bother me. One of my longhaired bitches received a Very Good rating when I, personally, thought an Excellent was forthcoming. But the judge gave his reasons – he *had* his reasons – and I can respect them.

Did you note the *reasons* why your bitch rated less than you thought she should?

Anyway, it was great to see you and I hope you will continue showing. Keep in mind that all judges see things a bit differently and that we are simply asking for one viewpoint on any given day. Unfairness and politics are often named as culprits when the usual fact of the matter is that the judge’s viewpoint simply differs from the owner’s. That’s okay. That’s showing dogs. That’s life!

    Take care,

    Patt
