A Day In The Yard

We noticed today that the birds had once again discovered the Cherry tree. Each year we watch for them and that is the time that we break out the net and go through the rather difficult task of “netting” the tree.

This year Hubby has a new ladder

and this had been quite a help, although both of us are a bit scratched from the branches of the tree rebelling against our work. But the tree is netted and those pesky birds will just have to do without our cherries, which will be ripe around the 10th of July!

Fritz was out “helping” us.

But it seems he got a little bored after a while.

We did get things done in the yard, although the dachshunds remained inside during this process. You see we lay the netting on the ground, and just imagine what three dachshunds and their little feet would have done to the netting! Fritz has a sort of yard savvy. He knows that he needs to stay clear of certain things, and he sits up there on the hill, under his peach tree.

Eventually Kimmie came over after she got home from school. She watched what we were doing and since she looked so cute in her dress I took her picture.

So now the sun is setting and another day has gone by. Today was a good one. Nice weather, chores accomplished and birds outwitted for another year!

  1. Even with TALL ladders, I still don’t GET how you get the tree netted! And I’ll tell ya something… if I had to do it – once I had it netted – it would STAY netted! FOREVER! LOL! That just sounds like a horrible task! I hope you get a LOT of good YUMMY cherries! I used to sit up in Ol’ Aunt Bessie’s cherry tree pickin’ and eatin’ for hours… and she never netted her tree! She HOPED the birds would come eat ’em! But I got ’em first!!!

  2. Those dachshunds are adorable, but Fritz is just a beautiful dog, I’d love one just like him. Michele

  3. Oh Boy, Just in time so you can bring me a few cherries!
I love how wonderful the trees look and Hubby is such a pro with all of that. I wish I had his green thumb! Love Ya!

  4. There is only one thing really efficient against birds, your hubby sitting in the tree as on the first picture and chase the birds away, playing scarecrow !
Fritz is a good dog !

  5. Love the pics. Just gorgeous. Stopping by quickly to say hello. I’ve had lots of deadlines at work this week, so have not been so good about writing, and I’m off this weekend to Maine, so expecting the same!

Hope you have a great one!
    Love,

  6. I can’t even get my husband to put the bird net over our tomatoes…and with the ban on non-home grown you’d think he would be out there in a flash putting it up, but not so.

My question is how do you know that exactly on July 10th your cherries will be ripe? That is very exact to say the least. 🙂
