Aging…

My hair stylist informed me today that my hair is getting grayer. Of course,Β  this is why I go in to visit her every 4 weeks for a “dip in her fountain of youth”! But apparently, the little bit of gray that I once had is spreading.

Like a bad case of the flu.

I’m not complaining, mind you, at least I have hair to actually turn gray. Still it saddens me to think that even though I feel young, and look (fairly) young, the old hair is turning against me.

When I got home I looked in the mirror. Hair aside, I’m actually not looking to bad for an old girl of 50. I mean, I’ve seen people my age who look….. well…. much older. There are also the botox beauties not and the plastic dolls that seem to be all over the place these days, at least on the TV and in Hollywood.

I’ve chosen to age gracefully. Well, except for my hair. I do not want all that gray showing. The lines, the wrinkles, and the sags, I will accept with the same good humor that I show the orthotic inserts for my shoes.

It’s just the way it goes.

How do you feel about the aging process? Will you go naturally, or kicking and screaming?

  1. Don’t tell me that you worry about grey hairs ?? That’s why we have hair coloration for ! I have a friend he got completely white with 30 ! that aged him a lot of course so what did he do, he tinted his hair in his old color and I think he was right. Now of course he is 66 and doesn’t do it anymore. But for men it’s also different. I have tinted my hair all my life because I have a “dirty” ash blond originally ! So I don’t know if I am grey or not, lol !

  2. For years I have had one streak of grey hair on the left side of my head. It usually hides underneath but sometimes it pops out and says hi. I rather like it. And since I am the female who owns neither a hairdryer nor moisturiser, although I do own a lipstick that is older than both my children – added together – I reckon I am firmly in the growin old naturally camp. More of a “can’t be bothered” camp in truth but I’ll pretend it’s me being graceful!

  3. I used to color my hair, not for long though. I decided that I’ll go down with a head of grey hair along with a failing memory and whatever else may come my way.
I still feel young and I am blessed with good health, so here’s to the young at heart with grey or colored hair!

  4. I color cause my hairdresser won’t let me not LMAO! Actually…I bought some temporary red dye to streak my hair with…for Halloween…yeah, that’s why πŸ™‚ Yup, still young.

  5. As long as your husband still has a twinkle in his eye when he looks at you then I don’t think you should worry. You are still pretty, and the grey hair can be dyed. I am not found of my emerging greys and lines around my eyes, but I will make the best out of it…and be grateful that someone still wants me to be his girl.

  6. LOL! I am going naturally – alllllll the way! You may remember my ONE experience with coloring my hair from last year — NEVER again! No, never! My hair has added MUCH to the graying process between my 50th and 51st birthdays – but it will be fine! One day it will all be gray and that too will be fine! My body is getting older, my teeth are nearly all missing, I’m definitely developing wrinkles, my boobs sag even MORE, and my hair is turning gray… but my HEART is still 16!!! And I think it’s STUCK there!

  7. I will go down without a fight…however, my hairdresser says that my hair is so fine and thin that I need the highlights to add volume.

Also, as I’ve mentioned on my site, I was born 80 and am only getting younger (even if it is only mentally!) πŸ˜‰

  8. Well, I’m the type that doesn’t really care much, at least where looks are concerned. I’m young, still, being only 35. But the hair is completely grey now, and gone on top, which actually makes me happy – I buzz it shorter than 1/4 inch. But, I see the wrinkles beginning to form and mutiple knee injuries / surgeries that are bad NOW – so I can only imagine what it’s going to be like in 25+ plus. We’ll see.

  9. I did have my hair colored for about a year while attempting to cover grey. Never did get the brassiness out-three stylists tried, and my hair was like straw. Will wear my helathy grey with pride!

  10. I don’t think there is anything wrong with grey hair… it can look very nice! But it’s also totally ok if that is the ONE thing that you don’t want while aging…. I think you look fabulous! No matter what!!
