Is This A Healthy Dog?

Today I realized that the world had gone totally mad.

You see, I took Anneliese to our local, Board Certified Veterinarian for her Health Exam. Guess what? He’s not good enough to tell if Anneliese is a healthy dog. No, I had to go to a State Veterinarian to have Anneliese examed. Not only that, but my poor baby had to be treated for worms she doesn’t have, be microchipped, even though she already has a tattoo, and get treated for ticks, even though it’s not tick season.

You would think that this would be enough for the E.U., but no, they want more. Friday I must take Anneliese to a Ferderal Veterinarian so he can look at her fill out another paper, put his seal on it and send her off.

Now first of all I have to say that I take VERY good care of my dogs. My Vet knows them, gives them all injections and his license should be enough to give Anneliese traveling papers. It would have cost me $45.00.

But then I saw the State Veterinarian and had to get all those things done to the tune of $300.00 and I am actually afraid of what tomorrow will bring with the Federal Vet.

Something tells me that we have

TOO MUCH GOVERNMENT and TOO MANY REGULATIONS!!!!

Do you suppose that in this day and age when we average poeple are struggling with our finances and so is our government, that perhaps we need to cut some of these redundant governmental programs?

Just a thought.

After all, doesn’t this dog look healthy?

  1. Oh yes I know, and it’s the same when you go to the States, the other way around. That’s why travelling with your pets is a luxury. Now they all need chips a tatoo doesn’t count.

  2. Two things: They are full of shit and your doctor is clueless!

I had to go through that once with Duke. I drove 1.5 hours the day OF Departure to the State Vet office and they told me that the documentation I had was completely sufficient for him to travel.

This is what I have for Duke to bring him into German (I happen to have a EU passport, but I digress): Rabies vaccination..evidence thereof.

That’s all I need to bring.

Duke actually has two microchips. A European one and a US one….the EU demands it when he left Germany to come back to live with me.

I am pissed for you. I can almost guarantee that you don’t need the state vet info…after all, I have flown with Duke at least 3-4x from the US to Germany and NEVER needed it (and was told by the lady at the State Vet’s office that I don’t need it).

Hm. And I haven’t even taken Duke to a vet prior to departure, because all I have to is show the vaccination.

Now. Going back to the US is different. The US wants a German health certificate not older than 24 hours.

Maybe because you are flying over there to breed?

  3. OH lordie, Maribeth. What a hassle. I do, however, remember going through all this when we took our dog to the Netherlands many years ago. You had planned to leave on Friday. is this going to mess up your travel plans?

  4. Oh boy! Good Luck getting everything done, you’ll be so tired out by the time you get on the plane. Love YOU, Mel
