In Time

Okay, fess up. How many of you forgot to change your clocks? Yes, it’s Autumn in North America, and our clocks all went “BACK” an hour last night. The USA is on Standard Time once again.

Of course, just to be different, there are places that do not observe a change in the time. Hawaii and most of Arizona do not follow Daylight Saving Time. They stay on Standard Time year round.

However, the Navajo Indian Reservation in Arizona DOES observe Daylight Saving Time; the rest of Arizona does not.

And the territories of Puerto Rico, Virgin Islands, Guam, and American Samoa do not observe DST. The Eastern Time Zone section of Indiana also does not observe DST.

Are we confused yet?

I’ve never been a big fan of Daylight Saving Time. I would much rather stay on Standard Time year round…but then, no one asked me.

Daylight Saving Time used to be much shorter, until the passing of the Energy Policy Act of 2005, which extended Daylight Saving Time by nearly 5 weeks per year!

Now, if you look at things Globally, it is my opinion that we should all change time at the same time, if we are going to change time at all!

Did you follow that?

Well, I will start my Sunday morning going around, room by room, changing the clocks in the house. After I finish that, I think it will be “time” for a nap!

  1. As far as I know, it was Benjamin Franklin who first suggested this at the world expo in Paris in 1784 – he was then an American delegate. You know his oft-quoted maxim; “Early to bed early to rise makes a man healthy, wealthy and wise.” 🙂
The reason and argument was to increase the evening daytime hours for outdoor recreation and to conserve energy.

We really can use that in Norway you know: in e.g. Oslo, the sun goes down quite early at this time of the year – while as at summer we have sunlight most all the time.

In Europe we changed last weekend.

Btw: Thank you so very much for you’re Birthday Card, Greetings, blogvisit and nice comment!
Hope you’re Maine Lobster will taste good in 10 day’s 🙂

  2. YEAH, I wish they’d leave things alone. I think someday they will find all the time changing stuff takes TIME off people lives since it causes loss of sleep and stress!! Love YOU, Mel

  3. When I was in Egypt it was the same time as in Belgium. The Sunday I came back last week we too fell back an hour so instead of 7 pm I arrived at 6 pm ! What a mess each year ! and all the watches and clocks in the house to change ! And getting used the cats that they have to eat one h earlier nobody complained btw !

  4. In Paraguay, every time there´s a new president voted into office, the first thing they do is change the date for daylight savings time! It´s standing joke for us all. We already changed our time weeks ago. 🙂

  5. Hi MB…….in Australia: QLD (the queenslanders think it will confuse the cows and fade the curtains!) and WA do not have daylight savings…….the remaining states now have 6mths on daylight saving, 6mths on regular time….causes great confusion for business particularly the eastern states trying to work with QLD! Personally I love daylight savings as I am home whilst it is still daylight and we can go on family walks etc in the evenings, and Brody would is not up too early in the morning. Otherwise in the middle of summer the sun would rise at 430am….way too early!

  6. Well honestly? I couldn’t really forget… the MAIN clock I use is on my cell phone and it sets itself back! The other MAIN clock I use is on my computer… and it sets ITSELF back too! Now if I could just REMEMBER how to set my car clock back… OY!
