Thirteen Reasons I Love Wire-Haired Dachshunds

1. Their comical personalities. People have often said that wire-haired dachshunds are the comedians of the dachshund group.
2. Their scruffy appearance. There is nothing neat about a wire, and even if you comb them to make them look groomed, they will shake and roll until they are scruffy again!
3. Their determination to do what they want. These little doggies, may be small but they have a mind of their own and aren’t easily swayed.
4. Their interest in children. I’ve yet to meet a wire-dachsie that didn’t love children.
5. The fact that these little creatures don’t realize that they are small dogs. Just last night Greta put an 80 pound Labrador in his place. After that she just had to look in his direction and he would go back to the dog bed and lay down.
6. Their loyalty towards their family. These dogs love their families like they are part of a pack.
7. Their beautiful big, brown eyes.
8. Watching them running after a ball or toy in the yard. Despite the little legs, they are poetry in motion.
9. They’re good car riders. Interested in watching the world go by in the car, and yet equally happy to lie down and sleep.
10. They’ve never met a piece of food they didn’t like, and they make no apologies about it!
11. They also enjoy their naps. Cuddled up with a person or in a warm blanket.
12. They love to strut their stuff walking down a street, or at the beach. They simply know they are the cutest thing on four legs.
13. And last but not least, the way that they have made me feel totally, completely and unconditionally loved.

Thirteen Reasons I Love Wire-Haired Dachshunds

  1. I love number 5. Ha. I can just see it. My mom has a Cavalier King Charles Spaniel and she bought her one of those harness things with a raised cushion so Missy could see out the window. So sweet.
Number 13 is the best gift of all.
    Pam

  2. That is the cutest picture of Greta!! How adorable!

Thank you so much too for sending me the Amazon gift card! It was such a nice surprise and a nice way to start my day today. I really do appreciate it!

I know our conversation was cut short last night, so will try you again when I leave tonight or tomorrow. (Tonight I’m meeting up with an old college friend who I just found lives in the area).

Hope you have a great day, and talk soon!

    Love,

    Mandy

  3. Awwww…they sound like such sweet doggies! That’s hilarious that little Greta can get a labrador retriever in line. My cat has the same capability with my parents’ labs, and it’s the funniest thing.

And I love the picture in your title graphic! Too cute πŸ™‚

    Thanks for visiting me today.

  4. Hi Mom,
I did go for the retail therapy! I bought a few Ansel Adams prints (that come with frames!) for my new office! Thank you so much!!
    Talk soon!
    Love,
    Mandy

  5. Oh honey what a great list!

I already had a soft spot for daschunds – now I have even more reason to love them. And the photo of Greta? Delightful!

    Cheers!

  6. Off topic:
Do you ever watch The Dog Whisperer on animal planet? I think I’m addicted to that show. I find myself “sshh”ing Deke all the time now.

  7. What a cutie! Sounds like they are the perfect dog! πŸ™‚ I hope someday I can get a dog… first got to get into a place that allows pets.

  8. I want a small dog… but I won and got my cats instead… atleast for now. I love the picture in the header… LOL… our big dog likes to lay like that!!

    Happy TT!!

  9. Great list, Maribeth! You hit the nail right on the head. I can’t disagree with anything you wrote there. It fits Daisy’s personality to a T.

Last night Pool Boy introduced her to corn that had been cooked the previous day that he scrapped off the cob. Let’s just say it was an evening snack he was giving her when her Mom and I came home from a movie. She was excited to see us as she always is but would not turn her face from chomping down the corn ~ just kept wiggling her butt and tail the whole time. You could read the excitement on her like a book! Happy we were home and happy to be eating this delicious plate of corn!!! LOL

  10. Greetings to a fellow doxie maniac!

I’ve had the lil critters since 1974,
all 3 coats. I’ve found personalities
vary more by individual dog than coat
type. Right now, my smallest (7lb)
    Charity, longhaired, thinks she’s a
pitbull & always starts fights w/ the
other doxies. Hence, she has to be
separated from them. She’s fine w/ my
2 larger mixed breed dogs or cats/kittens past a certain size. She’s
totally submissive to humans, tho. Still, I love her. She’s got me wrapped
arnd. her little toe! I have 3 others:
Tessa (crazy smooth), Gideon & Annie
(sweet wires). Annie’s dtr., dear lil
Katie dropped dead a couple of months
ago. Think it was her heart. No symp-
toms, just boom! I miss her terribly.
We also hv. cats, guinea pigs & birds.
    It’s a zoo!

Bye for now, Elise/Hobbit Mini Doxies
