Our Sunday was a pretty nice one. It was sunny and warm (65 degrees) and Jack was able to work outside on our patio replacing cement blocks.

Cement is wonderful, but after over 20 years, and more snow than one could imagine, the blocks have all but disinterested. In fact, some actually have fallen apart.

The birds came to the feeders and gorged themselves. Even the birds who are reluctant to been seen like our Cardinals showed up to fill their bellies!

I cooked, and I watched “Blue Bloods” and I gave Arnie an ear trim and cleaning. He has such a heavy coat and his ears were outrageously overgrown!

I got our laundry done and two loads of it I hung outside. I just love the way things smell after drying in the wind!

I have planned my morning tomorrow to go to the recycling center, the grocery store, and the Post Office. I have quite a long list of food items to get. My Hazmat Suit is standing by, as are my hat and mask and gloves.

I also plan to come in and shower as soon as I get home, and then wipe down my groceries and put them away.

Such is a Hermit’s life!

I know I often write that the weekend flew by for me, but this weekend it really did! It could be that the time change (Spring forward) did me in. I didn’t think it would make a lot of difference, until Sunday morning when I actually had to be somewhere.

Saturday morning I was up bright and early and I began my work on the laundry. I spent the entire day catching up on blankets, towels, and all the other thinks that Arnie had dripped blood on after his dental. In the end, I think I did about 8 big loads of the stuff. I always say, in life, you are never alone. You always have laundry!

I was so tired on Saturday and I knew that the next day I had a ride down to my daughter’s house and back, as Savi was in a community theater play. She was a chorus member in “Alice in Wonderland”. The kids did a great job. the music was sweet and it brought me back to the days of my youth when I also was in plays.

Traffic both down and back was pretty tricky due to very heavy traffic. On the way down it was Pick-up truck after Pick-up truck, with trailers carrying snowmobiles from the north back to their homes in the south. Apparently, Punxatawney Phil was right and winter is over! Yay!

I got to bring Quinn his birthday gift. Quinn loves to color and create, so I bought him a box full of markers (washable!) and paper, coloring books, and instant paint pictures! The gift was a hit.

Mandy and I went out for lunch and this has always been my biggest downfall. But yesterday I looked at the menu and ordered grilled chicken with a salad. No dressing! I felt pretty good about my choice. Then last night at home I made some eggplant for my dinner.

Arnie is doing great since his dental and in another few days, we can allow him to eat normal food. Right now everything needs to be mushy.

I have narrowed it down to three laptop computers. One will be my new baby. A friend once told me to always consider getting as much memory for the buck, and one of them fits that bill. It’s just that it is a 17-inch machine and I’m sort of reluctant to go to a larger machine, but then I think 1. My vision is such that a larger screen/font combination would be good and 2. When I travel now I take my tablet and not my laptop and 3. Considering the world health problems, I will not be traveling anytime soon. Especially not on a cruise.

Yesterday when I was at the play, I took out my hand sanitizer to apply and oh my goodness! The smell was so strong you would have thought I’d spilled a bottle of Vodka! My friend, Rachel and I had a good laugh at that.

Upon arriving at home I had three very happy doggies, who greeted me warmly and let me know they wanted their dinner.

The week ahead is not so bad. I do go back for an eye pressure check on Friday and then will be spending the night at Mandy and Matt’s home with the kids.

So as we start the week I wish everyone, a good one and hope you can get outside and enjoy the Spring!.

The weekend seemed to race by. Between laundry and cleaning, I didn’t find much time for crocheting.

I was also planning meals and cooking. There are days I cook two different dinner meals. I do this because if Jack ate the number of fish or turkey meals that I do, he would rebel. He’s a meat and potatoes man from way back.

I love to eat fish, I love to eat poultry and so I plan my meals around what WW would like to see me eat on the Green Plan.

It’s been nice and clear and cold this weekend. I love that. We’re actually due for much warmer weather, reminding me that Spring is around the corner. Yes!

On Sunday we watched one of my favorite reality shows, “Northwoods Law” which features the Conservation Officers of the New Hampshire Fish and Game Department who work tirelessly to preserve and protect the natural resources of the Granite State. They also aid hikers who are injured or stranded.

New Hampshire has 48 mountain peaks that are over 4000 feet, here is a list of them. Pretty amazing for a State that is only 9,349 square miles!

There are nearly 1,000 lakes and ponds greater than 10 acres in the state with a total surface area of almost 165,000 acres. With the exception of Lake Umbagog and Lake Sunapee, the largest lakes are in New Hampshire’s Lakes Region. Lake Winnipesaukee (Winni-Pes-Aw-key) and Lake Winnisquam (Winni-Squam) are two of the largest.

Squam Lake was where the movie “On Golden Pond” was filmed.

Winnipesaukee is 72 square miles and there are 258 natural islands on Lake Winnipesaukee.

New Hampshire, a U.S. state in New England, is defined by its quaint towns and large expanses of wilderness. In the north, White Mountain National Forest is known for winter sports areas and Mt. I love our State. It’s beautiful with so much nature to enjoy.

Over the weekend I finished my afghan project. It was meant to be a gift, but the yarn turned out to be a nightmare of pilling.

I have decided to de-pill it as best I can and then throw it on the back of our sofa. It is beautiful, but one giant pain. I now know why the yarn was on sale!

The usual work was done over the weekend. Sheets were washed, floors swept and dogs fed.

There is good news about the drops for my eyes. At first, they made my eyes feel really dry and uncomfortable. However, I started to use artificial tears every time I woke in the night. By doing this it has stopped all the side effects I was having. Now we wait to find out if these drops are reducing the pressure in my eyes.

This weekend was really mellow. Besides losing the electricity on Saturday and part of Sunday, we also spent an inordinate amount of time watching the TV.

Since Sunday night was the debut of Season 8 of Homeland, we spent both Saturday and Sunday watching season 6 and 7 to catch up.

I have actually watched all the seasons from Season 1-7 in recent weeks, and I have to admit that I found things I had missed the first time around.

Again, what a great show!

This was a busy weekend for me. I went down to visit, play with, and enjoy my grandchildren and their parents. Before Mandy and Matt went out for dinner and a movie, I sat talking with them. I love that. It is always interesting to hear their views on things and they always leave me with things to consider.

They departed and I went up to the Lego room, where the three of us played Legos for well over an hour. Mandy also has Alexa and I admit it was very fun to ask “Alexa, play Magic by David Paton and Pilot”! And she replied “Playing Magic by David Paton and Pilot” and the song played. I asked Savannah if she had ever heard this song, and she said, she had on a commercial. Smart kid!

Dinner was fun, Mac & Cheese for Savi and Quinn wanted chicken noodle soup. Chicken noodle soup? I didn’t even know he knew what that was! But he did and he loves it!

I ate something new. Italian chicken meatballs. They were 3 points for 4 meatballs. So, I cooked 8 thinking 6 points wasn’t too bad for the protein portion of my dinner. Then, while eating with the kids, Quinn asked if he could have one of my meatballs. He loved it and had two!

I always love being with the kids because I learn more and more about them and I feel that special bonding.

This time was so wonderful. In the evening, Quinn covered my legs with a blanket and then climbed up and sat right in my lap, snuggling.

I have never been one of those grandmothers that demand affection from their grandchildren. When they want it, I am here. Well, this time Quinn wanted me and I was there. On Sunday morning as I was getting ready to leave he told me how much fun it was to hang out with me! Friends, that was the frosting on my grandmother’s cake!

I stopped to get some groceries and arrived home to dogs who were happy to see me. In fact, Arnie hadn’t eaten much while I was gone. After a bit, they were all back to normal.

We got some interesting news from Punxsutawney, Pennsylvania.

Punxsutawney, Pa. – The results are in: On Groundhog Day 2020,  in Gobbler’s Knob, Punxsutawney Phil could not find his shadow. And as the legend goes, this means we’re in for an Early Spring.

The Pennsylvania Groundhog isn’t the only weather-predicting rodent in this quirky American tradition, but he is the most famous.

And according to the Punxsutawney Groundhog Club, his opinion is the only one that matters.

This is only the 20th time out of 124 in his recorded history (there are 10 years where no record remains) that Phil hasn’t been able to find his shadow.

Even so, Phil is usually wrong, and meteorologists aren’t too sure Phil’s suspicions are right either.

But it is fun to watch all the same. There is a funny movie with Bill Murray called “Groundhog Day” that will make you laugh.

So, that was my weekend. A good one all around.

 

Our weekend was a fairly quiet one. On Saturday we watched another season of “Homeland” as we near the return and last season of this great show. I sure will miss Claire Danes, as Carrie Mathison. She really made me like this rather wild and crazy CIA Agent.

Also watching Homeland again, makes you realize how relevant the story still is today.

I was so shocked and saddened to hear about Kobe Bryant’s helicopter crash, which caused his and his thirteen-year-old daughter, Gianna’s death.

God Bless them both and may they rest in peace.

I’m not sure that there are words to convey how truly tragic this is. So very sad for everyone involved.

He was a nice guy and did many good things for charity, as well as have an amazing career. So very sad.

We had warmer temperatures over the weekend which was good as we finally got our driveway free of ice and snow.

And lastly, on Wednesday I will see the Glaucoma Specialist. I’m a little nervous about this, but it is what it is, and I need to do what she says to get the pressures down.

The weekend was fairly quiet, with the exception of the snowstorm and the additional 6-8 inches of snow that fell Saturday and into Sunday. It was beautiful but required more plowing and snow-blowing.

I cooked a few nice meals for Jack and then for me. I am still cooking two separate meals most of the time. I don’t mind because it helps keep me on track without making Jack feel like he is on a diet.

Our birds came to feed and that was also great. I love seeing them enjoy the food I put out. I noticed that one feeder was full of snow and ice, so I brought it in, cleaned it up, and put it back out for their enjoyment!

I’ve also been noticing that I will be typing along and all of a sudden my cursor jumps to another sentence, this is throwing off all my work. It keeps happening and it’s driving me mad!

I decided to try shutting off the mouse and see if that works. Sadly it seems to. I say sadly because it is inconvenient to have to shut off and turn on the blasted mouse!

I’ve discovered turkey cutlets! It’s simply uncooked slices of turkey breast meat. They’re low in WW points and easy to cook. Yummy!

The weekend was a good one here in New Hampshire. We had temperatures in the mid 50’s which helped to melt a lot of the ice and snow. Oh, we still have snow on the grassy areas of the yard. However, the driveway and walkways are free and clear of ice and snow!

We watched another full season of Homeland as we prepare for February 9th debut of Season 8 of the series.

This is the last season for Homeland and I will miss it. That being said, I must tell you that as I have rewatched this show, I am finding all sorts of little things that I had simply missed the first time around.

I also did some crocheting, laundry, and the usual cooking. I discovered something new. Turkey Cutlets. They were in our meat case at the Supermarket and they were easy to prepare.  I love it when I find something new.

This is a big week ahead. I have two doctors appointments for me and one for Anneliese. Best of all, one of the appointments is for my eyes. It’s been a while since I had my eyes checked and quite honestly, although I like these frames, I have never felt that the prescription was correct. So, goodbye Lens Crafters and Hello Dr. M.

At least with all the driving, I will be doing I don’t have to worry about snow.
