What A Day

In anticipation of puppies arriving very soon, Hubby and I took to the Market and did our fair share of buying. I stocked up on dog food and puppy food, and yes, I picked up my glasses.

So, here they are. What do I think? I think it is wonderful to be able to see again!

We got home and I found some beautiful pictures waiting for me of Ali and her very own little girl, Faith. Faith’s Mom is a professional photographer in Michigan and as you can see she did a great job with these!

When I saw these pictures I started to cry with happiness. Ali has a great life with Faith and her parents. She is greatly loved and then she is a real dynamo out in the field learning to track with her Dad. Thank you so much for these great pictures!

Greta is getting bigger by the second. Since today was in the upper 90’s, we had our air conditioners going just to keep my little princess cool and comfortable!

She is so close to having her x-rays and I am just dying to know how many babies she has in there.

Life Is Good

Today I heard from Baron’s new owners. They sent me a picture of this grown up puppy-boy! I was so thrilled and amazed at how much he had changed! My little baby boy is now getting to be a big, handsome,  grown-up boy!

Here is Baron at a week old. (Blue collar)

This is Baron with his new owners daughter, Natalie! Can’t you just see the love?

I’ve also had great phone calls from my other puppy owners and all the babies are doing well. That makes this Grandma very, very happy!

***************

Today was spent doing laundry, paying bills, and catching up with all the things I have ignored for the last week and a half.

I also enjoyed the most beautiful day. Sunshine, blue skies and warm, dry weather. Perfect! The garden is yielding many vegetables and my tomatoes are starting to come in. Life is good!

She’s looking Pregnant & Update On Baerbel

Last night I got an email from Baerbel’s new owners. Not only an email but wonderful pictures of Baerbel and her new children.

Here is a picture from before she got pregnant. What do you think?

I wonder how many babies she has coming this time? What do you think? Leave your guesses in the comment section.

So today was much quieter than yesterday. No broken down cars, and just a nice simple day.

Happy Sunday everyone!

Puppies, Movies & Pregnant Dogs

Today I received updates and pictures of my two boys, Bogart and Baron. They are both doing well, and changing each and every day. Bogey looks so much like his Uncle Arnie. Quite a handsome fellow. His mom, Alexandra Daley-Clark sent me these pictures of her boy.

Bogart 13 weeks

He is a cutie and Alex is a terrific photographer! Thanks for the great shots.

Then I heard from Baron’s new family. I looked at the pictures and thought, “Wow! He looks a lot like his Mom!”

Baron 13 weeks

He is happy with his new family and having a great time. He even went swimming the other day!

It make me smile and feel so great to see these guys doing so well. Thanks for the pictures and keep them coming!

Gail and I went to see Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince. Wow was that good. I am so glad that we had our Harry Potter film festival over the weekend, so we knew everything up to the start of the movie.

Half Blood Prince

I suggest if you haven’t seen the movies in a while, watch them before you go. It really helps to make sense of it all.

After all, we are just mere “muggles”! Ha!

Tuesday morning at 11:30 we take Greta to the Vet’s for her pre-natal exam. I have my fingers crossed that she is, in fact, pregnant.

This & That Sunday

Today was spent watching the Harry Potter series of movies. Gail and I decided to do this in preparation for going to see the new Harry Potter film tomorrow.

Now we are all up to date and ready to face “The Half Blood Prince”! It was so much fun watching them all, seeing the kids grow and change, and actually their acting improved. I still miss Richard Harris as Dumbledor, but I enjoy all the other characters so much. (The good ones anyway!)

It was also Fritz’s birthday, and I got him a  piece of cake and a candle and sang Happy Birthday. Now here is the funny part. He is so picky that he wouldn’t eat Angel-food Cake!  The dackels liked it and ate the piece quickly, but my buddy Fritz turned up his nose.

July 26 09 002

Then as we sat watching the films (do you still call a DVD a film?) Greta cuddled up to me and with her two paws, held my hand. Isn’t that adorable?

July 26 09 003

I talked to Baron’s new owner, Mike to check in with him, and Baron is doing well. I hope to hear how Baerbel is soon. Bogey and Ali are great! When I get pictures I will post them for you.

So, Sunday is nearly over and tomorrow brings a movie day and laundry too. Happy Monday everyone!

Anneliese’s Litter…The End

Today Rob came to pick up Baerbel. He is Belle’s new forever Daddy. I’d been worried about how she would do, as she had been nervous about meeting new people since her brother, Baron left us last weekend, but Rob is so good with dogs and she is doing great with him and they are bonding already.

Still, it was hard for Hubby and I watch her go down the road. Baerbel is a truly sweet girl, and I think she is more grown up than I gave her credit for. She was ready for her new life, even if I wasn’t quite ready to let her go.

Baerbel, Me, Anneliese and Arnie.
July 23 09 001

I’d spent the early part of the day taking her picture, walking her outside and cuddling with her. Ah yes, once last smell of puppy breath!

July 23 09 002

We were so happy to meet Rob and for him to meet Baerbel.
July 23 09 008

Baerbel is going to his family where there is a Mommy, and two young children to play with. How great is that! Rob and his family have many adventures planned for Baerbel. I just know she is going to have a wonderful life.

Now all the puppies have gone. We opened up the puppy room gates, washed up the floor, put the puppy pen away, and sat down. I looked back over all the pictures, patted Anneliese and thought, “Wow, what a great time this was!”

This Is Tough

Thursday is going to be a tough day for Hubby and me. The last puppy from Anneliese and Isegrim will be leaving today.

Yes, we did the unthinkable. We fell in love with her.

July 22 09 008

We didn’t set out to do this. In fact all along we have told ourselves that the puppies were owned by others, but somehow the longer they are with us, the harder it gets. And now. The last…

Hubby has had her out a lot. We’ve played with her, held her and cuddled her. Anneliese has even played with her.

July 22 09 001

But, it is time for her to go. To a new family, with children and a Dad who will be training her for tracking. he will be outside, running and jumping and doing what little dackels should do. Find the wounded deer for their owners, by day and cuddle and play with the kids by night.

July 22 09 005

She is a great gal, my Baerbel. As I watch her tonight, she is every bit like her Mom, Anneliese. She will make this family very happy!

July 22 09 009

So good-bye Baerbel. You will be in my heart forever. Go with your new family and have a wonderful life!

Baerbel

My little baby, Baerbel is all alone. She had seemed to be doing well with it, but yesterday I noticed that she became a bit frightened of strangers. I was a little confused and then it dawned on me. When strangers come to visit, a puppy leaves. She is a smart girl. She thinks of this as her home and she doesn’t want to go. I will have to speak with her new owner and explain his need to be gentle and patient with her. If he is, he will have the very best friend he could ever want. She will bond to him and his family and become devoted to them. How do I know this?

When we bought Fritz, Hubby flew out to Oregon to buy him from a private breeder. He got to their house and Fritz was not at all friendly. He worried that perhaps Fritz wasn’t the right dog for us. He visited the house again later in the evening and brought sausages for Fritz as a treat. There was a glimmer of trust and the next morning he picked Fritz up for the long ride back across the country. I remember when he arrived here, he was a little white ball of fluff, so scared of everything.

This is Fritz with me and Shubi the night he arrived. The beginning of a beautiful relationship.

But we took our time and loved him unconditionally and today, nearly six years later, Fritz is devoted to us and to the dackels.

This picture was taken by my friend, Alice of Fritz with Arnie.

Arnie and Fritz

As I watched Baerbel today, I realized how like Fritz she is. She is quiet, and friendly and happy. I grabbed the old camera and went out snapping pictures of her today. She weighs 9 pounds and is easy to watch. Mostly because she comes when you call, and she will follow you wherever you walk.

I will miss her so much when she is gone. What a great dog she is, but it is time for her to go to her new home, and become part of a new family. That’s just the hard part of my job.

Bye-Bye, Baron

This morning bright and early, Baron’s new Daddy came to call. I could tell how excited he was to finally meet Baron and hold him, as he arrived several hours earlier than we had thought! The moment he held Baron for the first time, I knew that it was the perfect match. It was as if Baron was saying to Mike, “I have been waiting for you all my life, what took you so long?”

Of course Grandma, MB felt pangs of sadness when she held her baby boy, Baron for the last time. He was my biggest puppy this litter, and he was always the first one to do everything, from barking to eating regular food. Thus convincing me that he was conceived on the first day of breeding and not the second. Bogart, Baerbel and Ali were all conceived on the second mating day, I am sure.

In any case, I held my boy for one last moment. In that moment he was just mine, one last time, before I handed him over to his new forever Daddy.

July 17 09 Me and Baron14

Now we just have little Baerbel left. That’s tough. Tough for us, and tough for her. After Baron left, I took out the cardboard box and old bed, and all the stuffed toys and washed everything down. Then I put in Arnie’s big crate and some clean toys for her, and a small bed.

July 18 09 004

She cried at first, and so I took her outside and then after she had run around for a while, I brought her in and she crawled into her bed and fell asleep. She’ll be with us now until Thursday.

July 18 09 003

It’s quiet here without Baron, but I know he has gone to a great home and will be having a wonderful life!

Baron & Baerbel

This weekend Baron will be meeting his forever Daddy.

July 17 09 Baron Baerbel1

He will arrive Saturday afternoon, stay with us overnight and then head out early on Sunday with Baron to his new forever home in Michigan. We sure will miss Baron, but even more, I know Baerbel will miss him. She is our last puppy.

Baron

July 17 09 Baron3

Baerbel will leave us in a few days. That’s when it gets hard for me. You see when they leave at the same time it is just one good-bye. But when one stays longer than the others then I start getting attached.  So it will be tough sledding next week when I have to say good-bye to my very last puppy.

**********

By the way, Greta is really showing symptoms of pregnancy. It’s amazing how much I remember from her last pregnancy. Just a week and a half away and we will know for sure.
