I have great news to share regarding my being registered with the Deutscher Teckel Klub (German Dachshund Club) as a Kennel. First I applied for membership and once I was accepted I applied to become a Kennel. I needed to do this in order to register Greta’s puppies in Germany.
Today I received the completed documentation that shows my name has been entered into their books as a member and as a Kennel. Dackel Princess is my Kennel name.
There are a few reasons this makes me very happy. First, I wanted to be able to register Greta’s puppies in both Germany and America. Since I believe in and have followed the German standards for breeding her, I really wanted to be able to register the litter in the land of their mother’s birth.
Someday, who knows, perhaps I will bring a pup over to Germany for the summer and actually show it. Greta’s puppies would be eligible to do this.
There are also many Germans living here in the States who would appreciate a dog who was bred to the German standard. Since we belong to the American branch of the DTK it is my hope that perhaps some of the members might be interested in a pup.
Another reason is my Grandfather. I think how proud he would be that I have registered my Dackel in Germany. Papa came to this country when he was 9 years old. Somehow I think it would please him that I have truly fallen in love with the land of his birth and that for all of time my name will appear in the DTK membership book there.
Here’s to you Papa, dear!
