The Friday Five ~ March 24th

Friday FiveHappy Friday, everyone! It’s been a good week all around for me. I’ve used up nearly a tank of gas, but my running around was fruitful. So here we go with the week’s Friday Five.

  1. I took Heidi in on Tuesday to have an important blood test. My Vet is 21 miles over and 21 miles back. However, I must say that the two Vets there are simply the best in the area and they care about my animals as much as I do.
  2. Last week I’d gone over for the initial workup, and then back for an ultrasound to be sure that my little minx hadn’t eaten anything that got stuck in her stomach.
  3. Today I got the good news. No foreign objects in her tummy. No hernias, and best of all she was tested for Addison’s Disease and she passed it with flying colors, No Addison’s!
  4. So, Heidi is on an ID Diet, which is easier for her to digest.20230315_173113Best of all she loves it. She is back to normal and it appears she was sick with a doggy virus. I am so happy she is all better!
  5. Saturday finds me driving down to see Savi and Quinn. I hope to take them to their favorite place for lunch. One thing I need to do on my way down is to get gas.

So that’s it for this week. I keep hoping that Spring will come. Sadly I had to fill my oil tank once again. My pocketbook sure has taken a hit this winter heating my house. Ah, Spring, please come to us soon!

The Friday Five ~ March 10th

letitsnowThe week sped by as Jack and I struggled to dig out and get the yard all cleaned up for the dogs. Once that was accomplished, we noticed that mud was upon us once again. So here we go, with this week’s Friday Five.

  1. I’ve been trying to cook a bit more. Before the Pandemic, we used to go out once a week. In the last three years, I can count on one hand the number of times we have been out. Thus, my cooking skills have suffered.
  2. I had a network problem with my printer. Before I started making great changes, I checked the connections and found that the wrong Network was checked. Anyway, it was a very easy fix.
  3. My new glasses arrived and the distance vision is perfect. However, the bifocal part is terrible and I cannot see the screen on my computer. I have an appointment at the end of March to have the Optomstrist fix the prescription. Ugh!
  4. I need to drive Jack down for his testing. He is having an echocardiogram and is getting fit for a heart monitor.
  5. Lastly, this is the weekend that our clocks move forward an hour. Ugh! I wished they would set the time and then just leave it alone!

Have a great weekend everyone!

The Friday Five ~ March 3rd

letitsnowHere we are. The first Friday in March. I have a feeling that 2023 is going to fly by as fast as 2022 did.  Looking back over the past week, here are the things that have been on my mind.

  1. It seems that every time we turned around it was snowing. I was actually lulled into a false sense of security, thinking Spring was just around the corner when what happened?332378415_720840299573933_441739483305285417_n
Another snowstorm hit us. It was pretty and the day after it was actually nice and we actually had some sunshine.
  2. But then we got hit again on Wednesday into Thursday. More snow. A lot of snow! This snow was deep and sloppy and although Lili loved it, Heidi was not amused.

329632681_1174808839892590_4475537431396399576_nLili is really white, but she looks so cream color when she is against the snow.

    320010438_924040185715127_817108790990452742_n

Neither was I. But what can you do?

  3. Heidi spent most of her time in the house.

    329740862_602315404679545_5029918695993042957_n
When she is up to her ears in snow, she just comes back in as quickly as possible. On days like this, we snuggle a lot. Boy, does she need some stripping of her coat. She is looking pretty scruffy.

  4. And guess what Friday night is bringing us? If you guessed more snow then you would be right. I am going a little stir-crazy here. I just need lots of melting and beautiful sunshine!
  5. Lastly, tonight I am pretty tired. Besides the snow, I managed to get my closet cleaned, my dresser cleaned, and 5 loads of laundry washed, dried, and put away and make some homemade soup. Big week all around.

The Friday Five ~ February 24th

letitsnowLooking back at the past week I am pretty happy with the resolution of all the petty little problems that plagued me during the week. Here we go with this week’s Friday Five.

  1. I cannot begin to say how wonderful it is to have the sink and dishwasher usable once again. I think the best part is, had I had a little more belief in my own abilities, I could have fixed the drain problem. Actually, I was so close to clearing the drain, had I known one little trick, I could have done it. So I will add minor plumbing skills to my list of items I can do. It’s not big, but unclogging a drain can be done!
  2. On Wednesday it was so pretty out my bedroom window, I snapped a picture.2023-02-23_05-28-17

I was happy with a light dusting but…

  3. Just as we had cleared the last bit of muddy snow from the patio, it snowed again and dropped 7-8 inches! Now we have more snow that will be melting and causing more mud! Ugh. I know it is still February, but this year I am ready for Spring. Like, right, now!!!
  4. I was due to drive Jack to Manchester on Thursday for tests, but they actually called on Wednesday and rescheduled his appointments. I felt great relief. I am not a fan of driving in slippery snowstorms. And when I watched our local news they reported many accidents on the local highways. I was glad I wasn’t out there.
  5. Lastly, it is Thursday evening. The snow has stopped for now and our driveway has been plowed. The doggy potty area has also been plowed. And best of all, when the Satelite Dish began to fill with snow I could clear it from the ground and not climb a ladder!

So a busy, yet productive week. I hope wherever you are you are enjoying a few days of fun and relaxation!

The Friday Five ~ February 17th

letitsnow

My week was incredibly busy. And on Wednesday, while attempting to juggle too many things, I dropped the ball and missed a doctor’s appointment. Not like me at all. But here goes my list for this week’s craziness.

  1. After surviving the -20 degree winter cold spell, and learning how to keep my pipes from freezing, I called first thing on Monday to order more heating oil. We took well over 160 gallons and once again my bank account took a big hit. I think it was about $750.00+ for the delivery. However, as much as I detest the price of everything, I do not want either Jack or me to have to sit in the cold and get sick.
  2. So I called for a delivery and not more than 15 minutes later the delivery truck arrived. I asked how he got here so fast. Well, they sent him the info on his truck’s TEXT system!
  3. I ordered myself flowers and signed them from Jack. He always tells me to get myself flowers, so I did, and they are lovely.
  4. On Wednesday, my crazy day, I had a Zoom Meeting at 9 AM, then since I ditched DIRECT-TV Satellite and opted to go for DISH, The Installation man arrived at 10 AM. He worked so hard to get the old dish down for me and put the new one up. I mentioned my advancing age, and climbing ladders in snow storms to clear the dish. Scarry for an old lady. The new dish is installed easily and I can reach it while standing on the ground with a broom to clear snow. I must say that my experience with DISH has been A+++ and I would not only recommend them, but heck I would do a commercial for them if they asked. Better picture, better volume, and more of the channels I want to see!
  5. Lastly, on Wednesday, Heidi was sick all day long. I think it was all the craziness of getting the new Satellite system installed, and then each time she goes out, the new dish scares her. Last night she hid in her bed until midnight. Then I went and brought her into bed with me. She slept soundly the rest of the night.

So that is it for the week. I plan a bit of rest for today and Saturday and then I am off to see Savannah and Quinn in their Community Play, “Seussical”. Savi has the lead and I can hardly wait to see her!

The Friday Five February 10th

letitsnow
This week I realized that although I accomplished a lot I learned so much, and I am ready for Winter to be over! So here is this week’s Friday Five.

  1. Heidi had her first-year Vet appointment. She had all her shots and stepped on the scale, tipping it to 27 pounds! So I am cutting down on her treats, and adding in vegetables. Aside from her belly, she is in perfect health.
  2. I had gotten baby Heidi these nice foam steps when she came home. Well, Heidi thought the foam steps were toys! One she chewed and the other is safe so far. I sent away and got some heavy-duty plastic steps for her.326804943_579742657071360_5472845817506170059_nShe is a little concerned as she learns to use them and acts very much like a gymnast who is going up to the vault!
  3. I needed to get my garage door repaired, and take a load of trash to the recycling center. And all was accomplished with little fuss.
  4. I’m now 14 pounds down and going strong. I feel pretty proud of this.
  5. Lastly, today is laundry day. You know, wash and dry and hopefully fold and put away. The whole enchilada! I just hope that gets done. Then maybe, just maybe, I’ll tackle my closet.

The Friday Five ~ February 3rd

letitsnowThe week sped by. I took Jack for tests, and then Thursday found me going for my six-month check-up.  But here’s what else is going on.

  1. I think the best news was finding out my medical insurance will be continuing with the same doctors after I turn 65 and go on Medicare. I had gotten a letter in error and thought I was being kicked to the curb.
  2. My physical went well, and so far I am good to go for another six months.
  3. I do have two stopped-up ears. They’ve been bothering me, and Amie (my Nurse Practitioner) said that my ears are full and not draining. We’re trying some meds to dry it up and drain it, but if we have no luck then it’s off to have tubes put in. Hopefully not.
  4. I really have enjoyed not having any major health problems! Yay! I sure hope that continues!
  5. Lastly, it is freaking cold and only due to get colder. I have plenty of food, the car is gassed up, and I also have all my cold-weather gear out and ready for use when I walk the dogs. Lili is fine with this, but poor Heidi just wants to be inside. I can’t say I blame the little girl!

So that’s it for the week. Here’s hoping that the frigid weather does not last long!

The Friday Five ~ January 27th

letitsnowI was getting ready to tuck into bed when I realized I had not written my Friday Five. So I got up and here I go.

  1. This week we have had snow and more snow and the snow that turned to mush, and currently, at 10:30 PM everything is ice.
  2. Now the poor pooches have trouble with ice and I actually stomped down a snow bank to make an area for Heidi, who simply gives up on the ice.
  3. Jack has been having a few health problems, so I made sure I got him in to see his Primary Care doctor. There are tests he needs.
  4. So after all the snow, I think we have probably had close to 20 inches! It’s probably the most we have had sort of all at once, in many years.
  5. We are due for more snow over the weekend. Ugh. I am now ready for winter to be over!

The Friday Five ~ January 20th

letitsnowThis was a hectic week for me. Between doctor’s appointments, a dental appointment, and visiting my favorite hair stylist today, I am glad for Friday’s snow as it forces me to cancel Heidi’s grooming. I could drive in the snow, but I do not like to. Anyway, here is this week’s Friday Five.

  1. Since the beginning of the year, I have lost ten pounds. What does this mean? It means I can once again zip my winter jacket.
  2. I finally caught up with my laundry. That was on Tuesday and I was feeling so happy about that.
  3. The next day I filled the car to go to the Recycling Center. I came upstairs to say goodbye to Jack and he asked where I was going. Shoot! The Recycling Center is closed one day a week…Wednesday!
  4. Thursday I shopped and got a few things as I prepare for the storm.
  5. I also had my hair done. My hair stylist tells me that I need to find a way to release stress. Apparently, your hair becomes brittle and actually falls out if you are under stress. And apparently, I am. It’s funny. I met my Grandmother’s 99-year-old sister. We looked so much alike except she had thinning hair on the top. I fear That will happen to me.

That’s it for the week. Those of you here in New England, take care when shoveling snow. We’re due to have 6+ inches!

Friday Five ~ January 13th

20200206_160117January has been cool and really with not too much snow, although as I type it is lightly snowing outside.

I began to follow Weight Watchers again after gaining a bit of weight following an increase in my medication.

I took the bull by the horns and started once again on this diet. And yes, for me it is a diet. A lifelong diet as I struggle to get it all under control.

Anyway, here is this week’s Friday Five.

1.  I recently printed up a new Phone/Address Book. Jack and I have reached that stage of your life where you check the Obituaries each morning, and if you are not listed, then it is a good day! Unfortunately, many of our friends have passed away. The Address Book is much thinner. Sadly so.

2.  I drove Jack to the VA on Wednesday for bloodwork. It was a pretty day, just cold. I put Heidi’s sweater on her, and she came with us.

324791885_1221427605125167_5618699013692612404_n

She almost always rides well, but she was doing a wee bit of howling on Wednesday. On the ride home, she was nice and quiet.

3.  In some ways it’s good I’m back on the wagon with WW, as I really have very little appetite. My loss this last week was 8.2 pounds. I know I won’t be a big loser like that each week, but it was a good jump start.

4.  Do you know what I think was the hardest thing to have coped with during the Pandemic? How to cope as you were shut away from your family. I remember standing in Mandy’s kitchen delivering supplies just before the USA shut down. I was so afraid I would bring the germs to my daughter and grandchildren.

5.  The Pandemic hit me very hard. I was afraid. Not just scared, but terrified! During the first six months, I clenched my teeth so hard that my jaws ached. I began to stay inside my house. I became a recluse. I have previously discussed the fact that although some will say I am an extrovert, I am, in fact, an introvert. Currently, I still feel quite a bit of anxiety about being out in the world again and how to get my life started. I guess it is baby steps.

So that’s it for this week. I wish you all a happy and healthy weekend!
